Biographie

Rowland Schultz began playing flamenco guitar as a young boy, he was accepted into the Sydney Conservatorium yet chose to attend The Newtown Performing Arts High School in Sydney Australia.

He went on to be known as the Flamenco Artist ‘El Vikingo’ and then Vikingo de Jerez in Australia, a self-taught flamenco guitarist steeped in the pure Gypsy style. A sorrowful lyricism courses through his compositions, while he performs with a high technical facility, touring Australia twice with his debut album Buleriando - Vikingo de Jerez, audiences were thrilled and spellbound by performances of such ferocious power and originality as have never been heard of in Australia.

“One of the country’s finest” Australian Guitar

“He will be flying the flamenco flag for Australia for a long time to come” Beat Magazine

“Stellar guitar work by this talented Australian” Guitar International USA

After a 23 year professional career playing nylon flamenco guitar he chose to switch to steel string acoustic guitar inspired by French-Algerian guitarist Pierre Bensusan who he has heard since he was born.

Amongst other things he has also become a well known Poet Extraordinaire in Australia and an accomplished Oud player yet his main focus is now on fingerstyle acoustic guitar, forging a completely new way of playing steel string acoustic guitar
