FIELDS Jack
jazz gipsy
USA

  Biography

A perennial fixture in American Gypsy Swing, Jack Fields (aka: Monterey Jacques), honed his rhythm style busking on the streets of Santa Cruz and San Francisco for over 10 years before joining Hot Club Pacific in 2005. Regarded as a contemporary master of Gypsy Swing rhythm, "Monty" has blended his American swing roots with traditional and modern European Gypsy Swing styles to create a style that powerful, percussive, swinging and all his own.

Jack has performed in concert with Larry Coryell , Bruce Forman , Howard Alden , Mimi Fox , Andreas Öberg , Simon Planting and many, many others.

An avid guitar collector, Jack plays three Duponts (including the lovely D-hole that was used by Sean Penn in Woody Allen's "Sweet & Lowdown," dubbed "Chocolate Boy."), two Favinos (a vintage 1960's era Jacques Favino, and a Contemporary Jean-Pierre Favino #1077), and also owns several Gibson, Fender and Martin guitars, as well as a Benedetto "La Venezia," and a few old tube amps. Jack currently endorses guitar pickups made by Schatten Design, Savarez Strings and Manouche Guitars, which Jack uses for gigging.

  Testimony
"I've played every brand of guitar string for Manouche Guitars available. Savarez Argentine strings are simply the best, and the only ones accurately and consistently produce the tone that Manouche guitars are famous for. I use them exclusively on all of my guitars."
